Traffic TypeThe traffic type can be interpreted as a measurement for the kind of visitors that the affiliate program accepts as valid traffic. There are two broad categories of traffic types: Raw Traffic and Unique IPs. Raw traffic means exactly how many page views are loaded, regardless of the IPs of the visitor(s) loading the page views. For example, if someone visit your site and clicks on 50 different pages, then the count for raw traffic would be 50. On the other hand, Unique IPs counts the number of different IPs that access your site in a period of time (generally 24 hours). Hence, within a single day, if only one visitor goes into your site, then regardless of how many pages he or she goes through, the count for Unique IPs is 1. Since Raw Traffic count can be much higher than Unique IPs, the pay rates for Raw Traffic CPMs are usually lower than Unique IPs. Raw Traffic and Unique IPs are used for CPM ad category. CPC ads on the other hand, count clicks. Raw Clicks would be how many clicks in total are made by visitors, where as Unique Clicks means how many visitors with unique IPs made these clicks. Similar to the Raw Traffic vs. Unique IP case, Unique Clicks are paid at higher rates than Raw Clicks. One last thing you should note is the geographic region an affiliate program associates with valid clicks. Currently, most affiliate programs accept traffic from United States, Canada and UK. Visitors from other international countries are not counted as valid. The reason for this exclusion is that many advertisers find that their service or products unattractive to international buyers and hence refuses to pay fees to advertise to people who's not interested in their products/services. |
